RIO Elite Scandi MDC Kit Short

The RIO Elite Scandi MDC Kit Short (Multi Density Control) is a series of Scandi style shooting head systems that combines Skagit power with Scandi grace. The kit has all the code-cracking elements an angler needs for a complete perfectly balanced Spey casting and salmon fishing outfit – all in a single box. Each kit includes a shooting line, a floating body, and a selection of perfectly balanced, 12ft, dual density tips (floating tips are single density) supplied in a convenient tip wallet.

The Scandi head is incredibly easy to cast and built to load a Spey rod quickly and efficiently, tapered to deliver tight loops that unroll effortlessly, and with a weight distribution that is perfectly designed to turn over the supplied tips with exceptional ease.

With the included shooting line and matched tips, it is an exceptionally versatile solution for anglers who need precise control over depth, swing, and presentation in two-handed setups. This “Short” version of the kit, with 12ft tips, is the ideal choice for Switch rods and two-handed rods less than 13ft in length, and for fishing on smaller rivers, or when really tight to obstructions. On bigger rivers, and with salmon rods of 13ft plus, we recommend selecting RIO’s regular Elite Scandi MDC Kit which comes supplied with longer 18ft, triple density (not floating) tips.

The front loop of the body has a colour coded sleeve that matches the sleeve colour on the back end of the included tips, making it easy for anglers to keep their correctly sized tips and heads together. Each kit comes with four different density, 12ft MDC tip options: floating (single density), Hover/Intermediate, Intermediate/Sink 3, and Sink 3/Sink 5. The intermediate section on the H/I is clear for added stealth.

Built on RIO’s ultra-low stretch ConnectCore Plus, the line provides enhanced sensitivity for detecting subtle takes, setting hooks with confidence, and maintaining control when playing fish.
